Recovery Phase: Management of Infrastructure support team to oversee the repair of buildings damaged by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda and the construction of new structures. Infrastructure works closely to support Child Protection, Education, and Health Programs for Save the Children, on sector assessment, project planning, coordination and implementation. The Infrastructure team is responsible for overseeing and carrying out all aspects of works from inception to completion. Including building damage surveys, bill of quantities, cost estimates, design and specifications, schedule of works, program of works, tender, contracts, overseeing worker safety, finally supervision and inspection of works.
Tasks/Objectives:
Education: Leyte, Philippines; Repair classrooms and daycares damaged by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. Repair and rehabilitation of 41 classrooms across Western Leyte underway through a mix of Pakyaw (small), Mid-size, up to Large Contractors; with another 100+ classrooms in the pipeline. Repair of 3 covered basketball courts underway to provide safe child friendly spaces (CFS) for the community. Rehabilitation of day care centers underway to provide safe learning spaces for children before school age.
Child Protection: Leyte, Philippines; Repair and construction of children facilities and child friendly spaces. Construction of Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) for Child Protection program activities, with 10 completed and 20+ in the pipeline, this provides a safe area for children to learn and play out of the roadway.
Health: Leyte, Philippines; Repair of Barangay Health Stations (BHS), Rural Health Units (RHU), and construction of transitional facilities. Construction of a transitional pediatrics ward to facilitate the transition of the existing Palompon General Hospital to a new site location, this facility will allow for the continuing care of the patients for the hospital while the new hospital is under construction. Another 7 Barangay Health Station repairs and rehabilitations are underway to be implemented by Mid-size contractors.
Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Projects:
Emergency Phase: WASH Engineer in the field performing rapid assessments, in the early weeks of the Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda response, to determine the needs in Western Leyte. Support logistics, cargo and supply movements, and distribution of NFI (Non-Food Items) such as hygiene kits, water kits, and household kits.
Recovery Phase: WASH Team Lead in Ormoc assessing the storm damage for the communities affected by the typhoon, coordinate with municipalities and government officials for the sustainability of the water system project maintenance, managing the design, repair and construction of water systems to supply schools and communities with clean drinking water. Manage the construction of latrines and hand washing facilities to provide proper sanitation facilities for schools. Writing and co-developing sanitation standards, methodologies and communication pieces, currently used and referenced by Save the Children, UNICEF and the WASH Cluster: Philippines -Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda Response.
